DF.M. Turner holds a BA in music from Virginia Commonwealth University in Richmond, VA (concentration in Jazz Double Bass). He is currently located in Blacksburg, VA. An award winning bass player in many styles, ranging from Appalachian mountain music to Chicago-style blues, Mr. Turner has performed as a freelance Jazz and Classical bassist with the Roanoke
Symphony, Virginia All-state Orchestra, the Virginia Tech Jazz Band, the VCU Jazz Orchestra, The University of Houston Orchestra, Ben Jones ("Cooter", from the Dukes of Hazzard), and has subbed for The Duke Ellington Orchestra. He has also taken bass lessons with jazz greats Christian McBride, Scott Colley, and Nilson Matta. He freelances in all styles.
Turner has taught string bass, guitar, and old time fiddle to a wide range of ages in Richmond and Houston. In addition, Mr. Turner has studied music composition and production with Dr. James Wiznerowicz at VCU, Andrew Winn, and Grammy award winning producer John Morand. In his spare time, he enjoys hiking, tai chi, chasing his cat, and playing fiddle music for contra dances
